PORTRAIT DRAWINGS
Stripped of color and the technical aspects requisite in oil paint, a simple drawing can satisfy in ways that full blown portraits in oil cannot. Pencil drawings allow for amazingly subtle modeling of the form, often with parallel lines or “hatching”. Charcoal as a medium has the unique distinction of having characteristics of both line and mass. Consequently, a fine charcoal drawing can exhibit either or both qualities in the same work. FIGURE DRAWINGS & STUDIES
Drawings are perhaps the truest window into the soul of an artist. Owning one by an artist you admire is an ongoing, intimate conversation through time. Figure drawings and figure studies can tap into the expressive power of the human form. Shape and proportion are considered, and bone, muscle, flesh, and tendon are given the appropriate weight, all while capturing the gesture and emotion of a given pose.
